And thanks Shawn Smith for another great shot.

Kinja'd!!!

Someone asked before where the event was taking place. It was at Talladega Gran Prix, which is neat little road course about 20 minutes from the famous NASCAR tri-oval in Alabama.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

iTrack put on the event. Incredibly enjoyable.

Some good pictures and video. Is it pretty much 1 day = 1 rear tire set?

I brought (6) new tires plus (4) on the car with about 50% and it wasn’t quite enough for Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon. They had HPDE time attack event in the mornings.

Well get to it. Seattle area?

Looks like they have an open drift this Saturday. If you haven’t spectated at one of their events go and watch a few events, figure out what it’s all about, and then show up for an open event and get to it.

1. Keep your expectations low about how skilled you are going to be in your first few outings. Be prepared to be humbled.
2. Focus on following their rules.
3. Read their tech requirements and make sure you meet them before you head to the track.
4. Get your hands on 6 or 8 wheels and a boat load of tires.

You will have plenty of fun if you follow the above.

No, I’m in the San Luis Obispo area... Shit that is a lot of wheels and tires...

Willow Springs is a pretty fair distance from you but they have frequent events run by different organizations and sometimes multiple events going on on the same day at different tracks on the facility. It’s worth a trip to go see. I’m not sure what drift events would be closer to SLO.

Once you get it going you eat up a lot of tires. Most people find some good sources for cheap used tires. When you start drifting you learn at a pretty fast pace. It is bad to be all set up with your car at the track running well, on a nice day, and your getting enough track time to improve, and then you run out of tires.

Willow Springs and Laguna Seca are the two closest tracks to me that I am aware of. I know there are a few groups trying to build something here, but they still don’t even have land yet, so that’s way out of the question for years. I will look into these things though. My goat wants to see the track.
